What's something you'd want to be more of you doing?
Buddies is the tool — you are the engine.
I'm Fredrik, the guy who built Buddies. A way for me to actually see my friends and acquaintances more often.
This Monday, IFK Göteborg play away against Djurgården. A match I'm going to watch at home anyway. Instead of just waiting for kickoff, I created a private event in Buddies. Took me two minutes. Then I shared the event with 7-8 lads in Messenger. A few jumped on it right away. So instead of watching alone, we'll be 4 guys catching up on Monday, watching football, having a good chat.
What's something you've got coming up that'd be more fun if you were more of you?
This is the point of Buddies. Not primarily about finding new people, although that happens too. It's about making it easier to see the people you already have around you — friends, acquaintances, colleagues — more often. And about new things showing up when others in your area open up their events.
We're 269 Buddies right now. That's an honest startup number. We're growing organically, guy to guy, crew to crew — and every new Buddy means more happening in the area around you.
Three things that make more happen in your area:
- Update the app if you don't have the latest version. You're probably missing things — like being able to open the chat on your public event so the conversation gets going right away and you can collectively make sure the event becomes lively. On private events, the chat is always open. And if you have a private event that turns out it could take more — you can now open it up to public directly in the app.
- Create one event this week. Private for the friends when you want to gather your crew, or invite the acquaintances you have without separate group threads. Or public if you want to activate friends-of-friends — your crew can each bring an acquaintance, other Buddies in the area can join in.
When you create a public event, you set the radius — from 1 km and up. Perfect for organizing the neighbours for a summer barbecue! - Share a link to Buddies on your social media. You never know which mate in your feed is sitting there right now missing a context to belong to. Takes a few seconds for you — but it might mean everything to him.
Together we're building this. Buddies is the tool — you are the engine.
— Fredrik
